Found book "Stealing the National Parks" by Don Hummel

Post  FriscoGirl on April 11th 2008, 7:03 pm

I will scan and forward the book jacket and title information - and the table of contents as soon as my son vacates the computer with the scanner. I am willing to lend the book to the attorneys if it would help them!

Front cover full title is "Wake Up, America! The Environmentalists Are Stealing the National Parks. The Destruction of Concessions and Public Access". By Don Hummel Forward by Congressman Morris K. Udall
A Free Enterprise Battle Book Copyright 1987

Front inside Jacket Flap says:

America's precious national parks are being stolen by the very people we have trusted to protect them: the National Park Service and the powerful environmental lobby. Stealing the National Parks tells how, under intense political pressure from environmental organizations, the federal agency assiged to make our parks available for "public use and enjoyment" has methodically closed public access to one area after another, has removed concession visitor accommodations contrary to the law, and has slated dozens of national park facilities for future closure.
Don Hummel tells how concessions in our national parks - private enterprises authorized by Congress to provide services to the public - are the visitor's main bulwark against exclusionary policies. He traces how policies established by Congress to make our national parks available to all have been ignored, not just for years, but for decades. He shows America's environmental movement has fallen away from its original lofty goals of uplifting the human spirit to become a narrow ideology of political power bent on removing all things human from our national parks. This fast-paced and compelling book is "must" reading for anyone who values "the best idea we ever had," America's national partks.
