Bravo Hydra! Bravo. It seems only the common man and woman learn from history for some reason. While others are great gum flappers we are the ones running with the ball. It's sort of like catch and release befor it was mandated to do so with certain species of fish,we did it anyway. As stewards of the seas and beaches here we must continue to educate our young and visitors to our code of ethics so that the generations to come will know that it is their job to police their backyard not some spec.intrest group or board.

AND IT WON'T WORK

Post  HYDRAFISH2 on July 22nd 2008, 9:26 am

because essentially they contridict themselves as to conservation issues. People that are truly concerned about animals surviving would not sue and infringe unpon the rights of other human beings. Again I believe extremism in any form paves the way for our rights being taken away "for the good of all" under the guise of helping someone or something else. Distraction in our society about non-issues are just that distractions. Who cares whether Brad and Anjelina Jolie had twins, glad their healthy God bless 'em but report real news, about real issues. The politicians are talking about REAL CHANGE in our society, but where is it? Have they even addressed other forms of energy, wind, solar, drilling on our own shores, yes it is possible to drill without hurting the environment with todays technologies. Remember Katrina in the Gulf, not one drop spilled into the oceans. That is American engineering at its best. The people who enjoy the beaches on Hatteras, Ocracoke, and other places where access to humans is being slowly choked out, are the true keepers of the animals, because we know the true respect we give them; it is natural respect, and not a forced respect for other creatures. It is not regulated, not enforced through law suits. It is a natural respect for nature, so there is nurture for co-existence. The " higher ups" in these organizations, seem to be making a living off other creatures' natural selection, and the tax payer dollar. Some of the spin on their web sites is proof of this very thing, basically they are duping the American public to suit their greed and PRIVATE agendas to such a degree that it is interferring with American quality of life. If history has taught us anything it would be wise to note that empires and countries have fallen from the mere essence of their leaders not putting their people first, and slowly through special interest groups here in the good ole' USA it may, over time be proven once again. You would think leaders would learn, but obviously not. Just my 2-cents. Cool

Well the ghostcrabs aren't scott free yet!! The latest report is the park service will start trapping and killing them just as they have the fox. coons and cats!!Next they'll be shooting the gulls and crows as well!! Where does it end?? What gives these birds the right over other animals?? It's madness and it's not about the bird!!!!!!!!

Predation

Post  MadMarv on July 18th 2008, 10:33 pm

Probably the ghost crabs can go faster now that they don't have to navigate through the tire tracks to get to the birds and eggs. And there are no fishermen to scare the other predators away. So it's a Plover smörgåsbord for all of them.

The law of unintended consequences?

All plovers chicks have been lost!! DUE TO PREDATION. This is not an ORV issue it is an issue of a few eco wackos trying to shove even fewer birds down our throats. The only bird killed by humans was a American Oyster Catcher chick that the resource people chased around and killed!! Oh yeah and possibly an Dsprey which RUMOR has it being killed by resource management as well. This is a unconfirmed rumor but I hope to heck I don't find out it's true. Ospreys are just as endangered as the stinking plover and a bird of prey as well. It's a no no to kill them!!

Evidence that the conscent decree is not working???

Post  Paul on July 17th 2008, 10:18 am

The NPS was able to open about 7/10 of a mile to the right of South Point road today for pedestrians and ORV. The last plover hatched her eggs last weekend and began to move the chicks to the sound. Which gave the park service some room to reopen this small section. However, since then, all chicks have been lost most likely due to predation. With the loss of the chicks, the consent decree requires 14 days closure to see if birds will renest.

take away the humans and the predators move in...whodda thunk Question
