Because, I was born with a neuromuscular disorder, it is impossible for me to visit beaches unless we can drive onto the sand. I have great difficulty walking in thick soft sand and it impossible for me to walk long distances much less carrying anything for me to sit on. I am from Virginia Beach and am unable to go to the beach there, except for on the boardwalk, with my cane. My boyfriend is a member of The Beach Buggy Association and we support every effort to save our rights to drive on the beaches. Our plans for the near future included marrying and moving to the OBX. Now sadly, we may not see that happen. I don't think anyone has addressed how this issue will affect persons with disabilities. I agree with the others who say that they should just continue roping off, the areas to protect wildlife and ticket persons who litter, drive recklessly, endanger others or wildlife by driving where they shouldn't.
